Teaching English at Huay Pha School

Our team (starting at the back): Faye, Lilli, Bethany, Beth, Tuu, Hans and Nelly (plus a couple of the local teachers in purple)

For the past three weeks, our short-term team has been teaching English at Huay Pha School where children from 5 different Shan villages gather for primary education. During the day, we taught 5th-8th graders in three separate classes. Come evening, we held an English club at the local Buddhist temple where people of all ages came to learn. All the while living with two host families...right there in the village.

We had a wonderful time. Our host families were incredibly gracious, making room for us in their tiny homes (often sacrificing their own bedrooms) and preparing meals for us daily. The children were incredibly eager to learn. And when we weren't in class, many of them just wanted to hang out. Because of this, the team was able to make some fantastic relationships with with many of the students, teachers, and other local Shan people...giving those of us who work here long-term some great opportunities to follow-up with people in Huay Pha.

Maybe one day soon there will be a church in Huay Pha!
